I want the "look" of painting with fingers but now I know that you should NOT finger paint with artist grade paints! Playing around, I went a little crazy making index card backgrounds with the Colour Shapers Tool. I got a "cup round" shaped tool from Blick years ago for about $10 and use it for texturing acrylic paint on art journal pages. It's the same size and concept as a paint brush but the tip is firm - you can see it pictured just below the brush. It's easy to clean acrylics from the shaper with warm water.
Here's an older post about colour shapers.

Thanks for the tip on the cool tool, I like the effect you're getting with it. And thanks for the safety reminders and links. Guess I'd better stop sticking my hand in the jar of gel medium. (Just THIS MORNING I'm thinking "how seriously should I take this warning label?" as I smear soft gloss all over the page with my fingers....)
I love my colour shapers. They are excellent for using masking fluid as well.
Safety is important! But, what is a colour shaper and where can I buy one?
Erica, If you click the link to the colour shaper tool just under the last photo in the post, it will take you to Blick where they sell lots of different shapers. Tammy
Brilliant, brilliant, BRILLIANT!! I've always wondered what those color shapers would do, and now you've shown me the way!! I, too, love the look of finger painting, but yeah, too scared of the heavy metals and carcinogens (wonder if there are the same dangers in craft paint? Do they use the same pigments, but only really watered down?), so this is AWESOME!!
I've also found that scrubbing with my paint brush will give that dreamy look. It's hell on the brushes, but I buy cheapies so I won't worry about stuff like that. And painting with a baby wipe - it's like finger painting, but with a nice thick barrier in between my skin and the paint.
I love the look of each mini-painting and the synopsis photo as well (for lack of a better term.)
There is so much potential in these ~ I am grateful you showed them....
