Index-Card-a-Day: Moving Forward

index card #91, neocolors

In September and October we'll do a monthly index-card-a-day challenge. You can "register" for September by leaving a comment to this post. Please continue to create in a way that works for you. It won't hurt my feelings if you opt not to continue! This summer's challenge was intense, LONG, and rewarding.

Whether you are starting fresh, or continuing on the ICAD crew, you are part of the team. If you commit to September, your goal is to do 25 index cards, that's roughly one index card a day; you can skip 5 days.

Newbies, have no fear. The ICAD Directory will point you in the right direction and there's a Flickr group to peruse and post your pix. I've deleted the ICAD twitter list; use the #ICAD or #icad hashtag to indicate a tweet about the challenge. A blog, flickr and twitter are not required but they do add to your fun!

Monthly Themes will be posted the first of each month. There will be a color, a style, and a word.

Weekly Prompts + Link Love will be posted each Monday. So you'll get the prompts and add your link to the same post (less posts for me to try to manage)...

Format. To participate, you'll need to work in a format of 3x5" or 4x6". My index cards are 3x5". There is a reason we use index cards. Index cards provide a constraint specifically because they don't play nice with all mediums. Because they are basic office supplies. Because they are cheap. Because you don't fear wasting them. Small, inexpensive, plentiful, cute. The challenge is yours, so if you want to cut down watercolor paper to size, that's your call.

Frequency. The challenge is to do a daily index card. You'll get into a groove and find a process that works in your life. While many days I do one card, if I'm on a roll I do a bunch. Some days I don't do any. At the end of each month, you should finish 25 cards. Slice and dice as you wish.

Contribution. If you have enjoyed ICAD and plan to continue the challenge, please consider a small contribution to the coffee fund {the link is on the menu bar to the right} or purchase the latest e-zine.

Register. Leave a comment at this post to OFFICIALLY REGISTER for the September index-card-a-day challenge. This is your commitment to yourself (not me or the world) that you will go for it!!!

i'm in! i started the summer challenge a bit late, and didn't get fully "into it" until about mid-july. but i've truly enjoyed the challenge. it's something a can do on a small scale and not worry about filling up a whole blank page, lol. sometimes i skip a day here and there, or maybe two. or three. but then i make up for it by doing several in one day. easy to do ... if i've pulled out all my art supplies for one, what's another two or five?

so, i'm publicly declaring myself IN to hold my feet to the fire ;)

I only found your blog a couple weeks ago, but I've been experimenting with index card art off and on since...so yeah, I'm in. 25 of them.

I'm switching formats to square coasters but I'm still doing one per day. So I'm sorta continuing. :-)

I am so IN, I bought another mini ring binder that holds 4"x6" index cards for this very purpose - a pink one!

you KNOW I'm in! And you betcha I will throw a tip in the jar - you rock!
I never followed the suggested prompts over the summer, but I think I will try it for September. I can feel how easy it would be for me to get in a style rut and the prompts will shake me up. Already, the theme color for September is a stretch.. RED? I never use red. Time to find some red love in my life. Thanks Tammy!

I am in (actually I started on Monday) and I am using 4x6 cards.

I've been playing and following, just not posting (have no blog, etc.) But I'd been working on small cards for years previously-- glad to be part of the zeitgeist!

I'm in! I couldn't keep up with the crazy summer but this a perfect start of something new time. And I am currently in LOVE with index cards. LOVE. ; )

I'm in!!

09.2.2011 | Unregistered CommenterLoes

YES!!!
I am IN and I'm going to attempt to combine them with some other online classes I'm taking so that I actually accomplish the art that I want to do!

Fabulous responses, my kids were kind of shocked that we were going to continue ICAD!

I'm in. I started the summer challenge toward the end of June and bought two spiral bound sets of 50 cards each. I've accomplished 5 or 6 a week, lots of fun, and have about 25 to go in the second set. So that's perfect for September! It's been fun and it's really getting me to try stuff I wouldn't otherwise, in a larger format or with more "fancy" materials.

I was a bit back and forth on continuing in September, but I think I'll throw my hat in the mix too! It's really so easy and fun, and at the end of the day if I have almost no energy or time for art, the index cards are a quick fix to fill that creative void! I've also signed up for the 2012 Sketchbook Project, so we'll see how this Sept. ICAD goes too! Busy busy! :D
