Agnes, Thank you for posting the second set of 20 things, and for commenting. Comments are so appreciated. I have been wanting to try alcoholic inks (assuming they come with a Margarita), and ooh, lace doilies would be wonderful for stamping through... ~ Tammy

Dawn, Thx for posting the next 20 things. My dad found boxes of old 35mm slides in his attic; I've used a few thus far. Love the idea of using tv listings, that fun grid format. I didn't know you could catch spider webs in paint!

wow, you guys are good!! It'll take me waaay too long to come up with another list of 20, but here's what I have so far (hopefully there aren't any repeats)

1) an X-ray or CT scan (I have a CT scan I want to use, just haven't done it yet)
2) a feather
3) an original drawing by me
4) metal tape
5) sewing on paper
6) something I found on the ground
7) something metal (like a washer or bottle cap)
8) not really a "thing" but: a black and white page *
9) a color I DON'T like *
10) a dip pen & ink
11) white out
12) spray paint
13) string
14) corrugated cardboard

that's all I can think of for now... there's some great ideas here!
(I've never written anything I don't want anyone else to read either; I guess I'm still a llittle too insecure about my journal to do that.)

05.15.2010 | Unregistered CommenterJennifer

Jennifer, Thank you for adding to our growing list, indeed it is getting harder already! I put a star next to the two that are not "things" or used to make the page, but I like both of the ideas nonetheless. I still don't think I've ever done a black _ white page. My husband is using foil tape in a house project this week, and I have considering trying some on a page.

Makealife, I combined your lists. I've got a bunch of paper coasters from bars, and hadn't thought of using them in an art journal. And symbols from old books sound intriguing and could lead in a lot of directions. I'm loving turquoise lately, all shades. (fyi, we aren't counting specific colors as we creatives could fill 100 pages with color combos). Great list.

Hi got some more which I don't think are in your list but can't make it reach anywhere near 20! Only 4...hope I'll think of more while I'm on orders to rest an injured leg...

Rice
Beans
Cocktail sticks
little round bits of paper from holepunching

05.18.2010 | Unregistered CommenterJaki

Kirstin, Oh I LOVE the idea of seed packets, they have such lovely art, often hand drawn. Graphs would be fabulous, conveying info without words. I love stamping with corks (with random lines etched with a knife), you will have so much fun with that. TIRE MARKS! Wow, set your journal under your bike or car? Talk about wreck this journal...

Jaki, coctail sticks sound like a cool bit of ephemera, and rice could be used to create an interesting texture, perhaps in wet acrylics. Great idea to rummage thru hole punches for new ideas.

05.18.2010 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

Amy, You've blown me away with a new list of 20 things! I was just at Home Depot trying to buy telephone wire but their cutting machine was broken, so we're on the same wavelength. A circuit board would be ultra cool - for use as a stamp or using the diagram of the actual board. Love the idea of journaling on secretarial-looking correction tape!

Amazing. I wonder other ideas the creative minds will develop!
