Altered Book: Fake Writing

Working on pages in an altered book that I started last year. This was a page I actually considered complete, but I guess I just didn't love it. The background (bottom photograph) is magenta golden fluid acrylics, gesso, stenciled paint. I covered the words with maps and added images, cardstock, maps, hand-painted paper, a list of books to read, etc. I doodled, stamped with rubber stamps & handmade eraser stamps. The writing is in brush nib PITT pen.

I wrote thoughts about why I don't write as much as I would like. I certainly make time for art and other things that must get done... but I don't make time to write. I've been reading books about writing, such as "Bird by Bird" and "The Right to Write" and obviously I'm not making it any sort of priority. It just seems like a vague thing that I want to do. I think the key is that I need to get organized and figure out what on earth I want to write about and approach in small pieces, as a GTD project.

Find other pages from this altered book in Dream Collage, Live in the Now, No Cure for Curiosity and the most recent Glaringly Evident. We have a house guest this week, so I worked on this bit by bit and didn't get a chance to photograph in process. The collage in one sitting, the doodles, stamping, etc another time, and finally the writing. DAYS 25 + 26 + 27 of NaNoJouMo!

I love this. I really like how you add blocks of papers and highlight them with colour.

At one point I was writing a novel along with painting full time. It was too much and I had to choose. boo hoo. Now I mostly write on my blog.

Speaking of which, I have a challenge going on for art journalers to post their 'ugly' pages this week. If that interests you, please put your link in a comment so I will know. http://bit.ly/4IKhQT
