Altered Book: rainbow.gold rev 2.0

10x20" altered book, quote in pitt pen

I'm happy with my every-day handwriting... but really don't like my handwriting in a thick or brush pen, with uncontrollable curves and irregular edges! I'll give you an idea of what I'm talking about... There are pages that I like despite the writing, like Happiness Instructions. On other pages, like Fake Writing, seeing the writing in thick marker (black brush pitt pen) distracts me, because I focus on that and not what I wrote. So mostly I write in thin marker, like on Morning. You can only get away with thin marker on art journal pages that are fairly flat, with just paper, mod podge, acrylic. If there is anything rough or textured, like fiber paste or really bumpy papers, it will destroy the marker!

The original pages are at rainbow.gold. Read about writing in your art journal at Step #516: Journaling + Writing.

Do you like your handwriting?

I *love* this page.

And I DON'T like my handwriting. But there are times when it surprises me (in a good way) and then I like it a lot. But then I tend to make a big fat mistake (and not in a cute way so I can alter it and incorporate it into what I am doing) and I get irritated with it again.

I'm neutral about my handwriting except when I'm working in my art journal and then I hate it and get a sensation close to terror when I attempt to letter something legible in my own writing using a marker or a pen (precision tools). I'd like to get over this fear, but until I do, I'll continue to use a couple of favorite alphabet stamp sets. I do like using a brush or a stick pen/ink to letter because these tools are so hard to control (non-precision tools) that the lettering usually looks interesting despite itself.

Chel, Your description of handwriting horrors is hilarious. Agreed.

Jeannine, It seems that we are opposites - in terms of writing with thin precise lines vs. brush pen lines. I love when people take ideas and turn them around to see them from another perspective which then makes great sense to me!
