Art Journal: The View

"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile,
hoping it will eat him last."
— Winston S. Churchill

11x15" watercolor paper, fabric, ephemera, stitched

After I finished Swing, about my younger daughter's love of swings, I thought I'd better get rolling on something for my older daughter. The photos on this page are from a trip to Vancouver and Tofino, BC when the girls were 3 and 1. She fell in love with the super huge binoculars at the hotel in Tofino, holding them tight, standing on the balcony to see the ocean, the tide pools and the eagles. The binoculars were bigger than she was - reminded us of Mr. Magoo. We did see a few eagles that trip, what a sight!

This page was stitched in a grid pattern (here's the back of the page, inverted to show the stitches). I also played with free-motion sewing, by dropping the feed dogs and moving the page around. I left some spots for journaling about the trip.

I loved hearing your story about the binoculars, Tammy. What an awesome memory, and now it's being preserved in a truly creative and wonderful keepsake project! Hugs, Terri xoxox

I love your stitched journal pages SO MUCH. They're so creative & colorful! Like little patchwork quilts inside your journal :)

Terri, Seeing the photograph takes me back to that trip, such super memories. I'm not into scrapbooking any more, but I like this idea of bringing family photos into our art journals.

Michelle, Thank you for your kind words!

Tammy
