Black Gesso & Neocolors

Experimenting with black gesso in a paper catalog I've turned into an art journal. Black gesso provides the same texture as white gesso, and can cover just about anything in one coat. It's rich and luxurious. Vivid colors just POP on black gesso.

The process was to first apply black gesso with a brush. After a few minutes to let the gesso dry, I added dashes of Golden Fluid Acrylics and scraped most of the paint off so just a hint remained. After the acrylics dried, I scribbled with Caran D'Ache Neocolor II wax crayons. It will be challenging to write on top of the neolocors (I've had some success with a PITT pen but ruined a Sharpie) so I could glue in a small journaling block or add a journaling area with white or black gesso. Options are good!

Check out Experiment: Neocolors in Moleskine I to learn about using Neocolors and water!
