Calligraphy Chaos

"The great motherhood friendships are the ones in which two women can admit [how difficult mothering is] quietly to each other, over cups of tea at a table sticky with spilled apple juice and littered with markers without tops."
— Anna Quindlen

5x8" watercolor moleskine, J. Herbin ink

As part of my drawing practice, I decided to draw with different things. This was drawn with a calligraphy pen and J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche fountain pen ink, (you can click the link to see the true color on their site; the photo is pretty true to color). The ink reminds me of a vivid turquoise, a happy color. This ink is luscious, smooth, perfect. One dip and I draw for such a looooooooong time.

To draw with bottled ink, I use Speedball Lettering Nibs, little metal tips that slide into a pen holder. The nibs are about $1.75 USD. For left-handers, you can get special left-handed nibs! For these doodles and my daily to-done list, I use A-5 nib which is pointy. For practicing calligraphy, I also use an A-0 nib which is square. Both fit in a Blick Standard Pen Holder, which is about 56 cents, so I bought a holder for each tip so that I don't have to switch nibs.

A different pen holder for each tip! So simple it's genius! Thanks!!!

I am so very curious about calligraphy pens, I have NEVER been able to write decently with them.....think ink splots here! I would love to see you "in action" still or vlog using your pens! I could learn so much from you! This rocks btw!! You are such a voracious learner!!

The turquoise ink is positively "yummy"! So funny that you should do a post today about pen and ink. A good friend of mine gave me one of extra pens yesterday, and I bought a bottle of ink today. Can't wait to play! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Terri, I can't wait to see what YOU create with a new pen and a bit of ink!

I love the little circles connected to the lines along the "top" (relative to the photo) and appreciate all of the information you've provided about ink/dip/calligraphy pens!
