Creative Experiments #11: April

"If you're lucky enough to have something magical in happening in front of your camera, don't let it go. Keep shooting until the light fades, the magic evaporates or you or your subject have to leave."
- Steve Simon

The April Experiments
Daisy Yellow

For tracking purposes, each experiment is valued at one creativity point unless otherwise noted.

♥ Document one day of your life in 5 photographs
♥ In lines or in words, sketch the perfect purse or wallet
♥ Write the blurb for the back of a book about your last vacation
♥ Follow an art lesson or tutorial from a blog, video or book
♥ Invent a definition for these words: Doarblaper, Ropwilde, Sennesity, Gymwance, Tipbinding
♥ Sketch something from a photograph (ex: Retro|Vintage Drawing Practice)
♥ Adjust the artistic process. If you doodle with a pencil, try markers or calligraphy pen. If you shoot digital, transform to B&W using editing software. If you decorate birdhouses with acrylic paint using a brush, try a sponge. Whatever makes sense for your medium.
♥ Write a mini-story which includes the words: Suitcase, Skateboard, Watermelon, Cloudy, Typewriter, Rowboat
♥ Practice drawing using product packaging as inspiration (ex: Line Practice: More Ideas)
♥ Write a list of 100 ways to use a paintbrush (here's #37: Make a charm from the silver ferrule)
♥ Create art focused on a book, inspired by the story, characters or location or just climb into the book
♥ Write morning pages (ala Julia Cameron); 3 stream-of-concious pages first thing in the morning on 3 days this month.

Here's how it works!

  1. Decide how many Experiments you want to do from the list posted each month
  2. Grab an ART=HAPPY badge and share the words
  3. Post the URL to your experiments and I'll link!

[As a reminder, please do not copy/paste the experiments to your site, as excited as you are to do them, as they are copyright Daisy Yellow. Please link back to the list if you wish and of course post your experiments to share!]

A bunch of creatives have posted their experimental accomplishments!

oh I love these! I love the book jacket blurb idea, and I've been toying with the morning pages idea for a while - this is kind of a good non-committal way of dipping a toe in.

am wrapping up the March experiments - it was fun, and I am totally in for April!

*Sophie, I love to get feedback on the experiments, to make sure I'm on the right track! Thank you for all of your positive support for this endeavor.

February and March were creative non starters but hoping that April is better. Some of these ideas are carckers (that's a good thing). Thanks again for your blog.

I've been doing all of the challenges on my own since January but haven't posted them; I'm so sorry! Thank you so much for providing these amazing creative prompts. I recently wrote four poems for NaPoWriMo that I used a prompt each for; they are linked to with my author URL. :)
