Creative Experiments #15: August

"Life is rich, always changing,
always challenging, and we architects
have the task of transmitting into wood,
concrete, glass and steel,
of transforming human aspirations
into habitable and meaningful space."
~ Arthur Erickson

Creative Experiments is a monthly personal challenge, not a competition:

  1. Decide how many experiments you want to do this month as your personal goal
  2. Work toward your goal
  3. Grab an ART=HAPPY badge and share the love

The August Experiments
Daisy Yellow

For tracking purposes, each experiment is valued at one creativity point unless otherwise noted.

In July + August, there are 6 experiments --> we'll go back to 12 in September.

♥ Document the month in 9 photographs. Take as many as you wish and pare down to 9 that tell the story of the month. Optional: make a 3x3 photo mosaic and blog about it. [2 points!]
♥ Set a timer for 8 minutes. Write a stream-of-conscious page about the meaning of music in your life.
♥ Practice hand printing the alphabet using fonts as source material (find ideas at Line Practice).
♥ In line at the grocery store, glance at the items in the next person's cart and make up a story in your head about the person and what they are making for dinner tonight.
♥ Consider this quote by Robert Bresson, "Make visible what, without you, might never have been seen." How could you apply this to your life?
♥ Play a card or board game with real people (i.e. clue, crazy eights, apples to apples, scrabble, gin rummy, chess, bridge, scattergories, chinese checkers, monopoly) on-line doesn't count.

Questions:

  • Any advice or strategy for completing the experiments each month? (i.e. reminders, motivators, rewards)
  • Do you write about your creative accomplishments?
  • Do you do other challenges that provide synergy? My over-riding challenge for the year is Creative Every Day, so I try to motivate myself to achieve creativity each day.

{I kindly ask that you not copy/paste the experiments to your site.

I really enjoy your Creative Experiments and have frequently kept them in mind when creating. I especially enjoy the photo mosaic suggestion this month. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for doing these. They are inspiring. I haven't officially committed to trying to participate yet, but think I will this month. Hopefully this isn't a crazy idea as we are trying to move and many of my "creative things" are packed up. But I also want to challenge myself to make do with what is available and to relax a little with some creativity in the midst of it all.

Oh, I like the photo experiment. I might just have to try that one.
I'm constantly seeking and giving myself challenges. I feel that I produce better results when "under pressure."
Hugs,
Sophie

I'm looking forward to participating this month for the first time! All these experiments appeal to me :-) I like making creativity part of my day and have an ongoing project with a friend to share our work with each other. It's really fun to see how we are both growing through experimentation and freedom to just play with no rules!

August is certainly looking like it will be a creative month, looking forward to hearing about your progress with the experiments. I am going to do the supermarket experiment tomorrow or the next day. But then I wonder what people think of what's in our cart, like "what will she make with chicken, bananas, rainbow sherbet, organic plain yogurt & kosher dills?"
