Creative Experiments | May 2010 Check-In
Fri, May 14, 2010 at 04:00AM "A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say. I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you're wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo? The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we hadn't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin really meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beat the hell out of never trying."

Please join us! Details here. Each month I post a new list of experiments you decide how many you'd like to do. Result? More creativity means more happiness. At least that is my theory. I am curious if you have the same results. ART = HAPPY (if you agree, go get a badge for your blog).
I hope you are making progress on your May Creative Experiments. It's time to re-group; the rules allow you to adjust your goal mid-month so if your month is stacking up to be crazy you can adjust without guilt. In the states, the school year is winding down quickly and lots of busy-ness accompanies that process.
Notes...
- Eden interviewed me this week at Draw, Doodle + Decorate (with emphasis on the doodle)!
- I'm completely entranced by the concept and color at sixty-four colors
- Jennifer's hand-painted magnets at Trial + Error
- My favorite part of Grey's Anatomy is listening to the monologue at the beginning of the show. So please indulge me for the the lengthy quote today.

more creativity definitely equals a happier me.
I have never found an exception to this rule!
Even if I am feeling absolutely awful, I will always feel some degree better after creating.
:-)
Oh Tammy, that 64 colors is pure eye candy!!! Gives me ideas!!! Thanks :)
I am laughing because I usually write down these sort of monologues from the beginning of shows too! Another good one for this (now cancelled) was Men In Trees. Thanks for sharing this one....I missed it.
Liberty, Like music, art helps focus the mind and is calming. It's a bit of peace in a hectic day (or life).
Eden, I kept clicking on 64 colors, it really does thrill the creative mind.
Melissa, Thank you, thank you, for commenting on the quote. I never really know if people read the quotes but I will continue to search out and share those that mean something to me.
