Destination: Escape Your Comfort Zone

"One's destination is never a place,
but a new way of seeing things."
~ Henry Miller

Destination is a loose art journal page on 9x12" watercolor paper. I painted the first layer with golden matte medium spiked with a drop of golden fluid acrylics, added collage, found stamps, edged with neocolors. Because I usually work with vivid colors and multiple layers of collage, I intentionalliy tried to step out of my comfort zone by using an almost neutral background and just a bit of collage and stamping. This page was really about travel, and one thing people don't talk about is the chaotic aspect of traveling to another country. Our Europe trip has been on my mind since our return a few weeks ago. I used ephemera from several trips and journaled in a list format in pitt pen.

I couldn't resist adding some pops of color and painting some of the neocolors with a brush to brighten them further. but overall much more pale than usual.

Stepping out of your color comfort zone forces you to challenge your brain.

If you are used to working with B&W or pale tones, add pops of color (a compromise between your comfort colors and vivid); if you are used to neon-vivid or bright, take those colors and tone them down with gesso, thin with medium, or use softer colors.

Trying new things, experimenting, sparking creativity... the themes of Daisy Yellow. I believe that widening your creative range increases your overall creativity. And it makes for a happy life.

Great stuff. It really is a challenge sometimes to step out of your comfort zone. I have recently been trying to embrace the 'white space' rather than covering everything with color.
