Experiment: Neocolors in Moleskine I

A fresh page in my 5x8 watercolor Moleskine. Drew a mandala with Caran D'Ache Neocolor II wax crayons. Using a #0 <zero> flat paint brush dipped in water and dabbed on a towell, painted the colors. The colors dissolved, blended together and came to life.
I've not grasped the interplay of necolors and water, but this was a fun experiment. Adding water was slow and detailed, painting individual colors, blending others, keeping the brush clean so as not to muddy up the work. The experiments will continue.

My favorite way to use Neocolor II crayons is actually without water ~ in edging images and ephemera on collages or art journal pages. Beautiful in-process/progress shots!
I myself can't seem to grasp how to use these with water. Same with my Derwent Inktense pencils. It's like having to master the use of two different media at once and I don't know if I like that. I originally bought the Neocolors because they work fabulously on black paper. I didn't buy them to use them wet. When I have played with them & water, it seems as though there isn't the control like you have with artist grade watercolor paints.
Nice to see this progress shots. The colors really come alive. I tried it before and it went muddy. I think I'm not patient enough.
Painting the neocolors is tedious... with mixed results. To Stephanie's point, there are so many variables - how you apply the neocolors - how you apply the water - the interplay and results. But still fun to "test" your art supplies in new ways.
