Inspiration: Doodling & Imagery

{Click on mosaic to go to Flickr for photo credits}

I find inspiration everywhere. You can too! Look at the lines, color, form or composition of something you enjoy looking at, be it a quilt, a wrought iron fence, a train car or vintage accounting paper. What is it you like, what intrigues you? The idea is not to copy another piece of art but to get ideas from it. Focus on the vivid felt circles above. Rich, saturated color. Circles within circles. Linear pattern. What could you do with circles? A painting or embroidered doodle of flowers in the form of concentric circles? It's up to you. Or the carousels in the vintage art above could inspire a quirky collaged carousel made from scrap cardstock.

More inspiration:

Stones in shades of aqua and turqoise could inspire blue doodles in the moleskine with irregular edges. Sunlight streaming through translucent paper might inspire a painted palette of fluid acrylics. Sedum plants could inspire flower doodles. Playful illustrations just make me smile! Inspiration gets you started. It helps you hop over that "blank page" stage and jump right in.
