Kick-Start Your Art Journal (11)

"Each morning my characters greet me
with misty faces willing, though chilled,
to muster for another day's progress
through the dazzling quicksand,
the marsh of blank paper."
~ John Updike

<Album Cover> Remember album covers? Scroll through your ipod cover flow or pop over to 45 Beautiful Japanese Album Cover Arts from designer Athena Emily for inspiration. Ideas: build an art journal page in dedication to a favorite album or group, make a list of favorite tracks as your journaling, title your page, design the page like an album cover and include a cool font. Cinnamon & Honey created a fun series called Ipod10. Check out Chasing Wentworth Miller's Ipod10, which includes a YouTube video from Grey's Anatomy that prompted me to download "Breathe (2AM)" by Anna Nalick.

<Greetings> Use a greeting card as the focus of your page. Or make your page look like a greeting card (tacky or gorgeous, your call). Use any part of the card; consider the fonts, the images, the message, a friend's handwriting. Consider adding a fold or hidden pocket to your page.

<Flower Shop> Using color & imagery, give your page on the look and feel of a flower shop or use the colors of your own garden. Find a flower or garden-themed quote.

<Recipe> Write the ingredients for happiness, from your perspective. Use the format of a typical recipe, giving the ingredients and directions for making the final product. Don't forget some images or colors that evoke happiness for you! Here's a version of my Happiness Instructions in the form of a list.

<Mirrored> Divide a page in half, or use two facing pages. Make one page the mirror image, or opposite, of the other. Consider color, stamping, writing in reverse, whatever it takes to give it a reverse look.

Check out all of the art journaling & writing prompts in the Kick-Start Your Art Journal series!
