Kids + Cameras Traveling (Part 2)

This is second in a series on Kids + Cameras. You'll find thoughts on getting a kid a camera in Kids + Cameras (Part 1). Our daughters, 7 & 9, each have a small digital camera. Having their own cameras frees them to document travels from their perspective, both physical and intellectual. The following photographs were taken by my daughters on our trip to Europe this summer.

To give you an idea of what to expect, here's what our kids (ages 7 & 9) can do:
- Take photos on the auto or macro setting
- Turn the camera on/off, determine if a photo is in focus, turn flash on/off (which was used frequently as we visited churches and museums which did not allow flash)
- Review photographs they've taken and delete individual photos
- Put cameras in their zippered jacket pockets or give them to us when they are not taking photographs for awhile
- Make a basic movie using the movie setting

Tell your kids that they're great with their cameras. They can do more than I can. I took a picture of a patterned wall and it is totally out of focus. :(
When I saw these pictures, I was blown away and couldn't believe that your girls had taken them. They've got their Mama's "eye" for sure! I love the way they managed to capture and "see" patterns, texture and color. And they captured them magnificently! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Their photos are great! I am so with you on giving kids appropriate cameras and getting them started on such a great lifelong hobby. I got my first camera, an old hand me down, at the age of 12 for a school trip. Love at first click! My 8 year old sits in the back of the car with the camera on sports mode taking travel shots through the windows, a surprisingly effective technique.
