Mermaids

At our recent mother-daughter book club meeting, we discussed The Tail of Emily Windsnap, about a girl who finds out that she is a mermaid. The girls (in 4th and 5th grades now) liked the book and had a fun discussion about what life would be like as a mermaid, with lots of giggles. Our hostess mom-daughter team made yummy ocean themed treats and we painted mermaids.

My older daughter (11) lead the painting exercise and it was interesting to see the colors that each person used - one of the girls painted her mermaid's tail bright red with diagonal scales, so vivid. The mermaid I painted is on the left, and my daughter's is on the right. As you can see, I was not brave enough to paint the face details! Usually, the painting portion of the meeting is open-ended, and we paint something inspired by the book.

Mother-daughter book club sounds like so much fun! I was a big reader as a child and my four year old seems to love books and reading just as much. I read your posts on the club and was so inspired, maybe one day we could have something like that too :)
