Mixed Media: Secret World

{a new art journal page on heavy cardboard}

9x12" heavy cardboard, acrylic, molding paste, neocolors

I created this mixed media art journal page on New Years Eve. The kids were wired, excited for the ball to drop in NYC, and I was in my happy place surrounded by art materials.

This page has a little of everything and the texture is very rough. I started with the idea of painting a girl on a rough background. I've been drawing faces but this is my first painted girl! I love the grungy texture of her blue turtleneck.

She is contemplating the year that just past and considering her secret world. The world of math and analysis, of colors and paints, of life and blunders, of dreams and failures.

Love the texture and vibrant colors!

Hmm. I wonder ... Could she also be a writer? With vibrant, textured words to describe how MBA's and linear thinkers can discover {uncover} art-full patterns, colors and paints to express {and overcome} bumps and blunders as they dance in the direction of their dreams? I wonder ... ♥

she is really cool. plus she has hair like "that girl". and now that I have late 60's TV shows on my brain, I think her blue turtleneck might really be the blue cape that "nanny" wore in "nanny and the professor" - because look! it has buttons!
seriously showing both my age and total geekdom here, but I love your painting.

Oh.my.goodness. I love the layers and texture and the girl. Stunning page. And it made me smile because I have just recently stuck a colour sample card in my journal with the same colours. I really do love this spread. I want to keep looking at it. :)
