Perfectionism and Creativity

"Technical skill is mastery of complexity,
while creativity is mastery of simplicity."

~ Erik Christopher Zeeman, British mathematician
known for his work in geometric topology and singularity theory

"Perfectionism is not a quest for the best. It is a pursuit of the worst in ourselves, the part that tells us that nothing we do will ever be good enough - that we should try again."

"When we are angry or depressed in our creativity, we have misplaced our power. We have allowed someone else to determine our worth, and then we are angry at being undervalued."
~ Two quotes from Julia Cameron, Author of "The Artists Way"

I'll let you in on a secret. I cannot draw "real" things. Abstract art is my thing. If I try to draw a chair, I just stress myself out because I cannot get the proportions right. I practice, but I am thinking it just might not be my thing. So that is OK. I'd prefer to mess about in an altered book and collage and play with color... that's my thing.

When I read stuff like this it gives me such support. Thank you so much for all your wonderful posts. Your "Art Journalling 101" is so helpful and I´m having such fun working through it and experimenting. You deserve to be higher than #14 in that Technorati list.

Hugs, Jan
