Practice

"In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not."
Albert Einstein

{write my to-done list each day in 2011 with a calligraphy pen in my orange, unlined 5.5x8.25" Rhodia writing journal}

goal = accomplish 3 things per day

More about drawing practice with a calligraphy pen in a few days.

{spend 20-30 minutes at bed-time trading the pen back and forth with my daughter, doodling}

{photograph faerie houses}

{draw lines}

{photograph textures [like cardboard] that might make good photoshop texture layers [it didn't]}

{write a lot, and doodle}

{make art journal pages}

{sew papers into journals}

Love this. Specially love the to-done list. Great idea. I will have to show this post to my daughter - she would love the team doodling.

Kate, Thank you! It just occurred to me recently that everything builds up your skills, just keep going!

Kirstin, Yes the to-done list has been extremely helpful for me this year. I have been low energy, low motivation and just knowing that I only have to get 3 things done really helps. To-do lists were just psyching me out.

Hit it right on target...!
It's that simple, practice, practice, practice.
Art is a skill, that can be taught to all :]
Great post, wonderful pictures, thank you for sharing.

April, It's interesting that at the start, a few years ago, I didn't realize that I would get "better" the more I drew or painted or whatever. It just happened. It's what I tell friends who are teaching their kids to swim. It's time in the water, trying, working at it!

I love the doodles! And the team doodling is a great idea. I will be trying that with my granddaughter.
I do my lists in three stages. I have a master list, from that I compile a hot list of 15 items, and from that a daily top three. My master list seems to keep growing, but my weekly hot list and top threes are then manageable. I love how you have them right in your sketchbook.
