Sketch: The Bicycle

5x8" sketch moleskine, pitt pen

Sketched in pitt pen, inspired by a photograph of a bicycle along a brick wall in Denmark taken by flickr photographer mfotographia. The time on the flight to Pennsylvania literally flew as I sketched from photographs. Not long ago it was all about spilled drinks, triple bathroom trips, en route clothing changes, carrying the luggage myself, folding strollers, fallen toys, holding crying babies with diaper rash. But now! Now at 8 and 10 they are such good travelers - reading, drawing, listening to their ipods.

What do you think of bicycles?

Love the drawing - and the idea the travelling with children gets easier! I'm halfway (or more) there :-) (Ten! How did he get to be 10 already???)

Drawing from photos is something I CAN do - something about the flattened perspective or whatever. We've been having drawing sessions together, where I feel crap about my efforts, so this is a good idea. Off to dig out some photos!

Life is getting easier now, isn't it? Do you ever stop and think "OMG, I really did all that I didn't let it slow me down".... Love bicycles!! I really should try a drawing of one as well! This is really good, what you've done!! You've got the patience of a saint for that brick wall!! Wow!

Sam, Yes, it MUST be the 2D perspective, and the fact that the photo doesn't shift in angles and shadows but real life does. When I "try" to draw real things I have such an impossible time and really it's a bad experience for me.

Eden, It didn't stop us from traveling, but it certainly SLOWED us down big-time!!! Thank you for your sweet words.
